A game of two halves (or, a game of two 9’s…). I came into this Open really happy with my game from the previous day (at Marlborough) and, even though I hadn’t played this course before, I was really looking forward to it! First things first, what a great setting for a gold club! The views are amazing! I think this is an ‘inland links’ course as the fairways were really ‘hilly’ and that was really fun to play on! I couldn’t have asked for a better start with two birdies in the first four holes!! Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep that up but still managed to card 39 on the front 9… not bad! Then the back 9… the 10th hole is something I’ve never seen before with the green much, much higher than the tee box so you had to get LOTS of air to reach the top of the hill… then you have to follow your ball!! Fortunately I had a battery powered trolley as I’m not sure I’d have made it up otherwise!! I found the back 9 really tough but really proud that I carried on and eventually shot an 83. Not the kind of score I wanted to post but I’m taking the positive that I had never been to that course before, so was only seeing each hole for the first time when tee’ing off, and I’ll definitely be back next year to try again!! A massive thank you to West Wilts Golf Club for hosting (I’ll definitely be visiting again for some GP rounds) and, as always, a massive shout out to all the junior golfers taking part (especially my playing partner)!

This was the first of the Junior Opens I have signed up to for this summer… I absolutely loved it!! I have been playing golf for a few years, but I haven’t felt confident enough to play at other clubs until now, so I was nervous before the round and carding a 7 on the first hole didn’t help! Fortunately, I managed to settle my nerves and eventually carded a round of 80 (2 over my course handicap) and came 6th, of 33, on the gross score and 9th on the nett score. All in all, I was really pleased with how I played but know I can drive far better and I left a few putts out there so there’s room for improvement! I will be back next year to see if I can better myself! A massive thank you to Marlborough Golf Club for hosting (I’ll definitely be visiting again for some GP rounds) and a massive shout out to all the junior golfers taking part (especially my playing partner) as the weather wasn’t so nice!! I was incredibly fortunate to travel up to Troon on Tuesday and watch some of the best players on the planet go through their practice routines in preparation for the 152nd Open!! A big shout out to my dad as we wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for the fact he got carried away last year (watching events unfold at Royal Liverpool) and bought the tickets, a year in advance, without giving a thought to how we’d get there… he wasn’t the most popular in the house when it came to actually arranging travel etc but I don’t care as I had the best day ever!! Long story short, we made a 23 hour round trip leaving home at 3am on Tuesday morning and arriving back at 2am Wednesday morning but it was sooooooooo worth it!! We made the absolute most of it, arriving at the course at 9am and leaving at 6pm! Weather was wet in the morning but the sun shone through in the afternoon which made it an even better experience! Walked the course in the morning, mainly following Scottie for the time he was out, and had a fantastic insight into how professional players use these practice days; Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Francesco Molinari, Sam Burns all using the time to put themselves into tricky spots to work out how they’d play it if it happened during the tournament. Huge thanks to Ricky Fowler, Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Robert MacIntyre, Scottie Scheffler for taking time out of their practice sessions to make sure all juniors, in the ‘Kids Signature Zone’, went home with not only their memories but also signatures!!

This seasons tri-series kicked off with a visit to Bramshaw Golf Club (as it did last season). This is the first course I ever played a competition on, away from my home course, and I haven’t been back since so I was really looking forward to teeing off! The course itself is fantastic, winding in and around the New Forest with the chance of having your round interrupted by the odd deer!! There are some really challenging holes mixed in amongst holes you can pick up shots on and I was happy with some of the golf I played. In terms of the result, well… this is a tri series and it’s only third time (is that even a thing!?) so you’ll have to wait for the final two legs to play out to find out!!

With the US PGA Championship, in Valhalla, just days away does Rory’s second PGA tour win of the season (having claimed the Zurich Classic alongside Shane Lowry last time out) indicate this is his time to ‘stop the rot’ and collect another major?

Great day at the Captains Drive Out Today!! It was pairs comp Texas scramble. This is me and my playing partner (Will) taking a breather on the 5par 7th. Really chuffed with our net score 72 but sadly not enough to scoop any prizes! Captains Drive in in a couple of weeks so hopefully card a better score then!!

Huge congratulations to Scottie Scheffler for winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational over in Florida! Not only did he dominate the field he also became the first world number 1 to win since 2009 which is a hugely impressive! Has Scottie sent a massive message out for the rest of the season? Who knows but we are really looking forward to seeing how it plays out!

Half term was a blast! Very lucky to have had the opportunity to visit Romania with my family and it was great fun! There weren’t many opportunities to play golf but there was some amazing scenery like this; Carpathian Mountains in the background here! Great country, great people, great experience. Thank you Romania!

Great to see Tiger back on the course at the Genesis Invitational. Just watching the amount of spectators desperately trying to catch a glimpse of the great man shows how admired he still is in the game. Will he be able to turn back the clock and entertain us with some beautiful golf?? I hope so!!

Loved my old driver but the time has come to trade it in (is was making a rattling sound which isn’t a good sign!). Plenty of choices but I’ve gone for the Stealth… Will this improve my game?! I’ll let you know!!

2023 was a fantastic year for me personally; I became a junior member of Salisbury and South Wiltshire Golf Club and started playing regularly. The end-of-year awards ceremony was a real highlight as I managed to win some silverware!! This is a pic of my trophies and the colour combo for that 2023 season. What colour combo will I wear in 2024….? You’ll have to wait and see!

RBL golf is a small family business set up with the simple aim of bringing stand-out apparel, colour, fun, laughter and enjoyment to junior golfers; when Rupert (co-founder) fell in love with the game at the age of 11 he found it incredibly hard to find golf clothes and when he did find them there wasn’t much choice, so we thought ‘why not set up our own brand?’.
