Royal Troon – The 152nd Open… you didn’t disappoint!!
I was incredibly fortunate to travel up to Troon on Tuesday and watch some of the best players on the planet go through their practice routines in preparation for the 152nd Open!! A big shout out to my dad as we wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for the fact he got carried away last year (watching events unfold at Royal Liverpool) and bought the tickets, a year in advance, without giving a thought to how we’d get there… he wasn’t the most popular in the house when it came to actually arranging travel etc but I don’t care as I had the best day ever!! Long story short, we made a 23 hour round trip leaving home at 3am on Tuesday morning and arriving back at 2am Wednesday morning but it was sooooooooo worth it!! We made the absolute most of it, arriving at the course at 9am and leaving at 6pm! Weather was wet in the morning but the sun shone through in the afternoon which made it an even better experience! Walked the course in the morning, mainly following Scottie for the time he was out, and had a fantastic insight into how professional players use these practice days; Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Francesco Molinari, Sam Burns all using the time to put themselves into tricky spots to work out how they’d play it if it happened during the tournament. Huge thanks to Ricky Fowler, Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Robert MacIntyre, Scottie Scheffler for taking time out of their practice sessions to make sure all juniors, in the ‘Kids Signature Zone’, went home with not only their memories but also signatures!!
