Has Rory timed it to perfection?
With the US PGA Championship, in Valhalla, just days away does Rory’s second PGA tour win of the season (having claimed the Zurich Classic alongside Shane Lowry last time out) indicate this is his time to ‘stop the rot’ and collect another major? His resilience on the final day at Quai Hollow might be the biggest indication of all; two shots behind after seven holes on the final day, with the momentum seemingly swinging in Xander Schauffele’s favour, Rory turned on the style in carding four birdies and two eagles in the next eight. The most impressive part was Rory’s mental strength to carry on playing his own way and trusting his ‘golf’; in the not to distant past we would have seen Rory succumb to pressure and his challenge fade away … but here at Wells Fargo we saw something different, something more like the Rory of old. Is this a great sign for Rory and a worry for the rest of the field entering the second major of the season? Was Scottie watching? Will he be worried? Who knows but we are really looking forward to watching it play out!!
